Ballerinas, Bolshoi No. 1. Moscow, Russia. 2001

"I was on assignment for Conde Nast Traveller UK, a travel story about Moscow. I couldn't wait to photograph the Bolshoi Theatre. I was allowed full access before a performance of Swan Lake. I just remembered running around everywhere, from the backstage to the make-up rooms as the dancers warm up and get ready for the performance. I was shooting on film with my Pentax 67 camera. The light was dim and beautiful, I shot everything handheld, at 15th of a second. They had to grab me off the stage as the performance was about to start."
